The Dulworthy diamonds have been stolen! Performances of Leave it to Psmith in the St. Mary’s Theater will take place March 31st through April 2nd.
This comedy, set in the early 20th century, features a man named Psmith, an eccentric fellow who has recently left a job in the fish industry. Psmith (Come watch to see how it's pronounced!) is hired by Freddie Threepwood – a particularly stupid young man who has fallen in love with a girl by the name of Phyllis. When Phyllis tells Freddie that he must buy into her father’s jam company in order to win her hand, Freddie asks his mother for his inheritance from his recently deceased aunt. His mother promptly refuses, and he decides to hire Psmith to steal his mother’s beloved Dulworthy diamonds. Psmith agrees to do the job for nothing after hearing that it is to be done at Blandings Castle. For minutes earlier, he had had a pleasant conversation with a beautiful young freelance journalist by the name of Eve Halliday, who has just informed him that she is hoping to secure a job at Blandings cataloguing the library. Having quickly fallen for Eve, he is quite eager to follow her anywhere.
Unfortunately for Freddie, a conwoman disguised as a poetess named Miss Peavey and her ex-fiancee and fellow swindler, Cootes, have the same idea. Chaos ensues when they all arrive at Blandings and half of the guests attempt to nab the diamonds.
Why should you come see Leave it to Psmith? Director, Miss Atchley, says “It is a breath of fresh air from the stresses of daily life.”
